Let’s face it, the beach is out of the question for most of the day over the summer.
In general, the hot weather starts from around April until September or October. From indoor sports to horse riding and virtual reality to rock climbing, there is something for all types of interests.
We’ve searched the Emirate high and low for all the very best indoor activities to keep you entertained over the desert summer.

Indoor Activities Abu Dhabi
1. Prison Island
Prison Island is a unique indoor activity centre located in Abu Dhabi Mall. It is designed to provide a fun and challenging escape room experience.
It has 26 different prison cells, each with a unique theme and challenge. Some are physically challenging whilst others are mental puzzles and require teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Each team should consist of between 3 and 5 players. It is a fantastic activity with a group of friends or colleagues and even families with children aged 8 and above.
Remember to wear comfortable active clothing for this activity and allow 2 to 3 hours. It is also important to reserve ahead of time.

2. The National Aquarium
The National Aquarium in Abu Dhabi is a relatively new attraction located in Al Qana and it is surrounded by many fantastic restaurants and cafes.
The aquarium is the ideal place to hang out away from the desert heat. Featuring over 300 unique creatures, it is a full immersive experience. Some of the zones have birds which can fly around freely overhead making it feel like the amazon forest.
Whilst other areas have touch pools, glowing jellyfish, huge ocean tanks with sharks and schools of fish. Not to mention the British touch which is a red telephone box that has been turned into a fish tank.
There is plenty of educational experiences and add ons such as a behind the scenes tour to learn about the aquariums conservation efforts.
Not to mention, the glass bottom dhow boat with sharks swimming beneath. There is a little cafe on site, however, we recommend heading to the Al Qana waterfront restaurants for lunch.

3. CLYMB
Clymb Abu Dhabi is a popular indoor activity based at Yas Mall, right next to Ferrari World. It is a state-of-the-art facility with two record-breaking attractions.
Firstly it is home to the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall. The other record it holds is the world’s tallest indoor skydiving flight chamber.
The indoor climbing wall at Clymb Abu Dhabi stands an impressive 140 feet tall. It is a challenging course, however, any skill level can give it a try since it is safe and secure. Not to mention there are experienced instructors who brief climbers.
The indoor skydiving flight chamber at Clymb Abu Dhabi is equally impressive. The chamber is 32 feet wide and 82 feet tall.
It is as close as it gets to the real experience of jumping out of an aeroplane. It is open to children and adults. However, it is not suitable for anyone with injuries, particularly of the neck or back.
Everyone is given a safety brief and taught about positioning. Afterwards, the group are taken into the vault one by one with the aid of an instructor and suited up in the necessary safety gear.
The position is a little difficult to master. Not everyone can go up in the vault if they cannot master it. There is an option to hover lower without going too high if this is the case.

There are many nice restaurants near Clymb in Yas Water Fountains area including Turkish and Italian options with great pizza. Not to mention the Emirati restaurant for a shawarma fix.
4. Ferrari World
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is connected to Yas Mall at the Yas Fountains area making it easy to access from one indoor place to the next.
The park is predominantly indoors and features tens of rides, however, the most renowned is Formula Rossa which is the fastest rollercoaster in the world. It can reach speeds of 240 km /hr and is not for the faint-hearted.
The karting academy is also super fun to race around the track and enjoy time laps. Not to mention other driving experiences including professional driving lessons and a virtual reality F1 race.
Other rides include turbo track, flying aces and Fiorano GT challenge to name a few.

5. WB World
Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi is another indoor activity and it’s not just for children. There are tonnes of adrenaline fuelled rides for adults.
WB World holds the record for the largest indoor theme park in the world so there are lots to explore across the six immersive areas.
Featuring Gotham City, Metropolis, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch and Warner Bros. Plaza, many adults feel as though they are reliving their childhood.
The theme park is fully air-conditioned and each area is made to feel as though it is outside with a clever sky-like ceiling.
Some of the top rides for adults include the Batman Knight Flight roller coaster which flies through Gotham City.
Scooby Doo, museum of mysteries is another slightly spooky ride. Another blast from the past is the Central Perk Cafe, from the iconic Friends TV series.

6. Qasr Al Hosn
For a more cultural experience, Qasr Al Hosn is a fantastic choice. It is based in the centre of Abu Dhabi and the building dates back to the 18th Century.
It was once a palace for the Al Nahyan family and nowadays it has been converted into a museum preserving the culture and heritage of the UAE.
The restoration of the building resulted in a stunning landmark building which captured the architecture from the past with modern and clean lines.
There are quite a few exhibits, artefacts and photographs displaying the history of the region. The building is made up of two parts, the inner and outer.
The inner part is an old defence fortress which has a stunning courtyard, towers and bastions. Whilst the outer building was added when the Royal Family occupied Qasr Al Hosn as a palace.
The Cultural Foundation is located adjacent to the palace and is home to a variety of cultural and artistic events and exhibitions.
It is also worth a visit and often holds concerts, performances, and art exhibitions. Not to mention the library and bookshop are lovely to walk through.

7. Qasr Al Watan
Qasr Al Watan is a magnificent architectural masterpiece. It is one of the cultural indoor activities in Abu Dhabi.
It is a working presidential suite and it is also open for tourists and residents to explore. Some of the beautiful grounds are outdoors, however there is plenty to see indoors.
Featuring white granite with intricately detailed Arabic calligraphy, beautiful domes, patterned tiling, traditional columns and stunning arches, the building is one of the most incredible in the city.
Inside, the building is adorned with detailed patterns covering the floor, wall and ceiling. Materials such as gold and crystals adorn the interior on the magnificent chandeliers and the ornaments on display.
The palace is home to a variety of artefacts, manuscripts, and exhibits highlighting the country’s political, cultural, and scientific achievements.
Another interesting feature of Qasr Al Watan is the Library. The library is home to a collection of books, manuscripts, and documents.

8. Velocity, WTC Mall
The Velocity slide at WTC Mall is for all thrill seekers, and it’s not just for kids! The slide is one of the largest indoor slides in the Middle East.
There are actually two slides side by side. One has a few extra twists than the other.
The slide twists and turns from the third floor down to the ground floor and is quite the sight in the centre of the mall.
Thrill seekers slide down in a sack to pick up extra speed. At 160 meters high, riders can achieve 2-3m per second going down the slide.
Remember to pick up tickets on the ground floor before heading to the top of the slide.

9. Pixoul
Pixoul is one of the unique indoor activities in Abu Dhabi for adults who have a passion for gaming and virtual reality. Based in Al Qana, it is an immersive experience perfect to escape the summer heat.
Pixoul is essentially a futuristic world with state-of-the-art virtual reality technology, The immersive experiences include everything from racing through futuristic cities to solving puzzles and escaping from virtual reality rooms.

It is a super fun experience. On arrival, staff brief diners on what to expect. No one knows what they are going to be eating.
The menu at Fresh Basil changes regularly, but they offer a range of dishes to suit all tastes and preferences, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The experience is also accompanied by a selection of beverages that complement the meal.
Diners are then led to their table in pitch-black conditions holding onto the waiter or waitress who help everyone to sit down.
The meal usually consists of multiple courses. Diners have to figure out where their cutlery, plate, food and drink are! Needless to say, it can get messy but it’s a really fun experience.
After the experience, diners reconvene in the lobby and the staff ask them to guess what they’ve eaten. This part is always super interesting and sometimes people can be so off the point.
