One Of London’s Most Loved Spanish Restaurants Is Coming to Abu Dhabi

There’s a new Spanish restaurant making its way to Abu Dhabi, and it comes with quite the reputation. Barrafina, the acclaimed London tapas spot known for its buzzing atmosphere and seriously good Spanish cooking, will be opening in the capital this December.

Barrafina’s story began in 2007, when brothers Sam and Eddie Hart opened their first restaurant in Soho. Their connection to Spain runs deep, with their family having strong ties to the Mallorca region.

Sam’s period in Barcelona proved influential for Barrafina. His time at the legendary Cal Pep tapas bar, with the restaurant’s counter-style setup, would later help shape the Barrafina experience and what the centrepiece would look like.

A Taste of Spain at The Counter

Rather than reinventing or complicating Spanish food, Barrafina let the excellent ingredients stand out. Serving seafood, grilled meats, vegetables, and classic tapas, the fine produce is prepared and cooked in an open kitchen where diners can watch the chefs at work.

Dishes that are synonymous with the restaurant include its tortilla, gambas, croquetas, padrón peppers, and pan con tomate. There’s also a changing selection of daily specials, meaning there is always something new to discover alongside the familiar favourites.

The concept has proved a major hit in London and has become popular with those in suits and those in Nike high-tops, showcasing the diverse appeal.

Barrafina has also expanded to several locations across England’s capital and earned Michelin recognition, cementing its place among the capital’s standout Spanish dining destinations.

Abu Dhabi Is Next

The Abu Dhabi opening follows Barrafina’s arrival in Dubai, marking another major step beyond the British Isles. Its Dubai restaurant was the brand’s first international location, bringing its distinctive take on España dining to the UAE earlier this year.

Now, Abu Dhabi gets its own seat at the counter. The exact location is yet to be revealed, but with December on the horizon, it won’t be long before the capital can pull up a stool and get stuck into Barrafina’s Spanish-inspired menu.
