This city’s growing reputation as a global sporting destination is about to reach another milestone this November, as the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships are set to take place on Hudayriyat Island.
Bringing together more than 4,000 athletes from over 45 countries, the prestigious event will turn one of the capital’s most popular leisure destinations into a ten-day festival of elite competition and community entertainment.
It also marks a historic first, with the championships being hosted in the region for the very first time.
A Dive into the World Triathlon Multisport Championships
Now in its 10th edition, the World Triathlon Multisport Championships is one of the biggest events on the endurance sports calendar.
Organised by World Triathlon, the championships bring together six different disciplines under one event, where athletes will compete in duathlon, cross duathlon, aquathlon, cross triathlon, long-distance triathlon, and aquabike events, with the brave competitors taking on combinations of swimming, running, and cycling across varying terrains and distances on the island.
One Island, One Championship Village
Taking place between 13 -22 November at 321 Sports on Hudayriyat Island, the event has been designed around a simple concept: one island, one championship village.
Every race will start, transition, and finish in the same location, allowing athletes and spectators to experience the action together.
Race routes will showcase turquoise waters, coastal roads, mountain bike trails, and even the iconic Hudayriyat Bridge, offering a spectacular backdrop to get the competitive juices going.
What Do We Know So Far?
More than 35 national federations have already confirmed participation, whilst the UAE is preparing to field its largest-ever multisport team.
Alongside the elite competition, there will be children’s races, community activities, and live entertainment, offering a gala-like week for those in the capital.
Tickets and spectator information are expected to be announced closer to the event, whilst athletes hoping to compete must qualify through their national federations.
With the countdown now underway, Hudayriyat Island is preparing to welcome athletes and spectators from across the world, for what promises to be another sensational event in Abu Dhabi.
