Two new bridges have opened on Reem Island today, Friday March 20, marking a significant upgrade to the capital’s road network.
Announced by Abu Dhabi Mobility, the project introduces new internal connections across Reem Island, linking its two outer peninsulas for the first time.
The addition allows drivers to move more freely across the island without needing to loop back through Al Maryah Island, which has long been a key bottleneck for residents.

Direct connections between Reem, Saadiyat and surrounding areas set to cut journey times
The new infrastructure also strengthens links towards Saadiyat Island, creating a more seamless route between major residential and lifestyle hubs in the city. Alongside the bridges, new traffic signals have been installed to support smoother and more controlled traffic movement across the upgraded routes.
For residents and daily commuters, the change is expected to noticeably reduce travel times, particularly during peak hours, while easing congestion across surrounding roads.
As Reem Island continues to grow as a residential hotspot, these improvements come as a timely boost to connectivity, making everyday movement across this part of Abu Dhabi more efficient and far less circuitous.
