The capital has seen heavy rain and unstable weather conditions this week, prompting the city’s authorities to temporarily close all public parks and beaches to ensure public safety.
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality confirmed early Friday morning that all outdoor recreational areas, parks, and beaches under its management will remain closed until the conditions improve. Unfortunately, forecasts predict further rain, wind, and rough seas today.
Residents and visitors have been strongly advised to avoid these outdoor spaces, with official updates to follow as the situation evolves.

The widespread closures come amidst a region-wide weather disturbance that has brought a storm across the UAE. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has been monitoring a low-pressure system affecting the Gulf region, with expected showers of varying intensity through Friday and possibly into the weekend.
Authorities also moved swiftly to suspend community events across the emirate over the last few days. The Department of Municipalities and Transport highlighted the unpredictable nature of current conditions and prioritised public well-being over planned outdoor gatherings.
Although this season’s rains are not expected to match the scale of past extreme weather events, downpours and lightning have already caused travel disruption in the wider UAE, including flight cancellations, and urged businesses to allow remote working where possible.
Those using the roads are advised to drive with extra caution, as wet surfaces and reduced visibility can pose risks and cause hazards.

For now, the popular outdoor spaces such as Corniche Beach, the surrounding parks, playgrounds, and seaside picnic spots remain off-limits.
Officials of the capital will reassess reopening once the forecasts show the weather has improved and that the safety of the public is assured.
If you were planning to head out today, it’s best to stay updated via official channels and take advice accordingly. Heavy rain can be enjoyable to watch but only from a safe, dry location!
