A new chapter in Abu Dhabi’s creative scene is being woven together, quite literally. Zuleya by FBMI is set to open the GCC’s first handmade carpet facility in the capital, creating a new space where centuries-old craftsmanship, Emirati heritage, and women’s empowerment come together under one roof.

Meet Zuleya by FBMI
Behind the new facility is Zuleya by FBMI, the social enterprise of the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI). This initiative has long used traditional weaving methods to create employment and develop unique skills, particularly for women artisans in Afghanistan.
Now, that experience is being brought to Abu Dhabi, with the new centre putting a spotlight on the intricate world of hand-knotted carpets while creating opportunities for Emirati women to learn the craft themselves.
A New Space for Traditional Crafts
Spanning 10,000 square feet, the facility is expected to open in December 2026 at MiZa in Mina Zayed, adding another creative attraction to the growing area.
At its heart will be a training programme for Emirati women, who are being taught the specialist skills involved in hand-knotted carpet weaving, but won’t be the only craft getting its moment in the spotlight.
Visitors will also be able to discover traditional Emirati handiwork, including Sadu, Khoos, and Talli, showcasing distinctive craft traditions together under one roof.
Why This Is Big News for Abu Dhabi
Whilst handmade carpets may traditionally be associated with other parts of the world, Zuleya’s new facility is about much more than creating beautiful pieces.
It represents an opportunity to preserve and develop traditional skills, giving Emirati women access to specialist training and new creative opportunities.
It also adds another layer to Abu Dhabi’s growing cultural landscape, where heritage and contemporary ideas are increasingly finding common ground.
Come December, Mina Zayed will have another reason to explore, and this one will be quite literally woven into the fabric of Abu Dhabi.
