The next public holiday in the UAE may be closer than it seems. Government and private sector employees across the country could be set for a day off this August to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The occasion holds deep significance in the Islamic calendar. Known as one of the most important religious dates for Muslims worldwide, the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad is traditionally observed through cultural gatherings and spiritual reflection.
In the UAE, the holiday falls on the 12th day of Rabi’ Al-Awwal in the Hijri calendar each year. While the official date has not yet been confirmed, current projections suggest it is likely to land in late August.
As per current estimates, the holiday could fall on Tuesday, 25 August. If that happens, residents could be in for another long weekend. This is because the day off may be shifted to Monday, 24 August, instead of Tuesday. UAE rules allow most public holidays, except Eid, to be shifted to the start or end of the working week.
The exact day, however, depends on the sighting of the moon. Official confirmation is expected right before Rabi’ Al-Awwal begins. Authorities have not yet announced any official dates.
