Two New Darb Toll Gates Go Live in Abu Dhabi as Network Expands

Motorists across the capital will notice a change to their daily commutes as two new Darb toll gates have officially gone live from Monday.

The rollout marks another step in Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to streamline traffic movement and manage congestion across key routes in the city.

As the emirate continues to grow, authorities are leaning on smart mobility solutions to keep journeys efficient while maintaining a steady flow on some of the busiest roads.

Where are the New Toll Gates?

The latest additions to the network are the Al Qurm Toll Gate and the Ghantoot Toll Gate. Al Qurm is positioned on Wahat Al Karama Street, covering traffic entering and exiting Sheikh Zayed Street within Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, the Ghantoot gate is positioned on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street, a key stretch linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai and widely used by commuters travelling between the two emirates.

Both of these sites have been selected to target high-traffic corridors, with the goal of easing pressure on some of the busiest roads and encouraging alternative route choices where possible.

How the Darb System Operates

The Darb toll system relies on automatic number plate recognition, meaning there are no barriers or stopping points.

As vehicles pass beneath the gantries, the system logs the journey and applies the charge to a registered account. Motorists must ensure their vehicles are signed up to avoid fines.

What this Means for Motorists

For regular commuters, especially those travelling longer distances, the new gates may lead to small adjustments in route planning or travel times.

Peak-hour pricing will remain in place, designed to spread traffic demand more evenly throughout the day, with the primary aim to keep the roads flowing.

As Abu Dhabi continues to expand its infrastructure, developments like this highlight a continued focus on smarter mobility solutions, aiming to support the emirate’s long-term growth on the roads.
