As residents across Abu Dhabi prepare for one of the UAE’s most significant religious celebrations, official Eid al- Adha holiday dates for 2026 have now been confirmed for government workers, private sector employees, and schools.
The extended break is expected to bring a busy travel period across the capital, with many families planning staycations, gatherings, and short getaways during the festive week.
Since schools in the private and public sectors have different holidays, it can be a little confusing. Here’s everything currently confirmed about the Eid Al Adha 2026 holidays in Abu Dhabi.

Public Sector Holidays
Employees working in the public sector will receive an extended break for Eid Al Adha 2026, with federal authorities confirming holidays from Monday, May 25th, until Friday, May 29th.
Government offices and departments across Abu Dhabi are expected to reopen on Monday, June 1.
The holiday period includes both Arafat Day and the official Eid celebrations, giving many public sector workers a full week away from the office when combined with the weekend.
Private Sector Holidays
Private sector employees across the UAE will also benefit from several consecutive days off this year.
Current announcements state that workers in private companies will receive leave from Tuesday, May 26th, which is Arafat Day, through to Friday, May 29th.
For employees who already have Saturdays and Sundays off, the schedule creates a longer break stretching across six days in total.
The holiday period is expected to increase travel demand throughout Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE, particularly for regional destinations and local resorts.
School Holidays
Schools in Abu Dhabi are also set to close for Eid Al Adha celebrations, with both public and private institutions expected to pause classes from Monday, May 25th, until Friday, May 29th.
Students and teachers are currently expected to return to the classrooms on Monday, June 1st.
For many families, the timing of the holiday offers an opportunity to plan family activities, short holidays, and celebrations together before the academic term continues into June.
