Abu Dhabi invited its youngest residents to see their surroundings differently earlier this month. Through the ‘Little Inspector’ initiative, children and families were encouraged to take a more active role in caring for public spaces.
Launched by Abu Dhabi City Municipality, the inspiring project blends education with hands-on activities, with the programme nurturing awareness around cleanliness, safety, and the emirate’s overall appearance.

Building Awareness Early
The initiative focused on introducing key civic values from a young age. Hosted across areas including Khalifa City, Rabdan, and Shakhbout City, sessions were designed to show children how everyday actions can influence the spaces around them.
The goal was to encourage young participants to take notice and take action with waste management, public upkeep, and visual clutter, with the programme helping build a sense of shared responsibility for the city’s environment, with no age barrier.
Learning by Doing
Rather than relying on traditional teaching methods, ‘Little Inspector’ used interactive experiences to bring its message to life.
Children took part in guided activities that promote observation, teamwork, and problem-solving, all while reinforcing positive habits.
Although the idea is seen as straightforward, it has been proven that when young people understand how a city functions, they’re more likely to take pride in maintaining it.
These practical lessons aim to leave a lasting impression that extends beyond the sessions themselves, offering a positive experience all round.
A Wider Community Message
Although the initiative is centred on children, its impact reaches further. Families and community members were encouraged to get involved, turning each event into a shared occasion that highlights the importance of collective effort.
As Abu Dhabi continues to prioritise sustainability and urban wellbeing, ‘Little Inspector’ reflects a broader vision, and one where community awareness starts early and grows into long-term civic pride.
