There’s a lot that goes into keeping Abu Dhabi looking as pristine as it does. Behind the spotless streets and well-kept public spaces is a huge amount of work, and new figures from the first half of 2026 reveal just how much is happening behind the scenes.
So far this year, municipal teams have cleaned more than 205,000 kilometres of roads and collected almost 11,000 tonnes of waste and litter across the emirate.
A City-Wide Effort
The latest figures come from the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), with cleaning operations taking place across Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra.
This great work stretches far beyond the capital’s main roads, too. Crews have been working across residential communities, major routes, pedestrian bridges, tunnels, bus stops, and cycling paths, helping to keep some of the emirate’s busiest spaces hygienic and accessible, showcasing the commitment to keeping critical public spaces clean.
More than 1,600 priority locations were included in the programme during the first six months of the year, with teams also responding to areas particularly affected by dust and increased activity where litter builds up.
Clever Tech Behind the Amazing Work
It’s not all about brooms and bins, however. More than 500 cleaning vehicles fitted with smart technology are being used to help teams monitor roads and identify where attention is needed.
The municipality has addressed hundreds of public reports regarding road cleanliness, showing that residents can play a role in flagging areas that need a little bit more attention.
The Work Isn’t Stopping
With more than 205,000km already covered in just six months, the cleaning programme is set to continue throughout the remainder of 2026.
