UAE Nationals Can Now Renew Their Emirates ID Card Up to 12 Months Before It Expires

UAE nationals can now renew their Emirates ID cards up to a year before they expire. The change was recently announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security. The early-renewal window period was previously six months.

The move is part of the authority’s efforts to make government services more flexible, convenient, and easier to access. Customers can now navigate a more simplified digital system and get things done more efficiently.

Earlier, the authority had also allowed UAE nationals to renew their passports up to a year before expiry. If expiry dates overlap for passports and the Emirates ID card, citizens can renew both in one integrated transaction.

The combined renewal process is expected to save time and make it easier for citizens whose passport and Emirates ID expire around the same time.

Allowing Emirates ID cards to be renewed up to 12 months before expiry supports the aims of the UAE’s Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme. The initiative reduces paperwork, improves service integration, and makes greater use of artificial intelligence.
