The Next Public Holidays to Look Forward to in Abu Dhabi This Year

With the Islamic New Year bank holiday arriving on Monday, many residents will already be looking ahead to the rest of the UAE’s public holiday calendar.

While only a handful of official breaks remain after that, there are still several opportunities to enjoy time away from work before the year comes to a close.

With a religious observance in August and a three-day national holiday period in December on the horizon, here are the remaining bank holidays still to come in 2026.

Mawlid al-Nabi Falls in August

The next scheduled public holiday after the Islamic New Year is Mawlid al-Nabi, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

Expected to take place on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, this holiday is giving residents a welcome pause during the summer, with the official confirmation of the bank holiday to be announced closer to the time.

A Day of Reflection in December

Commemoration Day will fall on Tuesday, 1 December this year, as the UAE sets aside time for national reflection, unity, and gratitude.

Celebrating the dedication and sacrifices of the nation’s heroes holds an important place on the country’s annual calendar, and it is set to be observed on the first day of the last month of the year.

National Day Celebrations Follow

Straight after Commemoration Day, the UAE National Day holidays will take place on Wednesday, 2 December and Thursday, 3 December 2026.

This momentous occasion marks the anniversary of the UAE’s formation and is traditionally accompanied by fireworks displays, live entertainment, cultural events, and celebrations throughout Abu Dhabi and the wider Emirates.

If you’re planning a short getaway, a staycation in the capital, or simply some extra downtime, these remaining dates are worth keeping firmly on your radar and marking in your diary.
