Positioned right in the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District, the Bassam Freiha Art Foundation has quickly become one of Abu Dhabi’s most community-focused cultural spaces.
Founded and opened in 2024 by His Excellency Bassam Said Freiha, the non-profit institution was created with a simple but ambitious goal, which is to make art approachable, educational, and available to everyone, no matter where you’re from.
Alongside its standout exhibitions and permanent collections, the foundation is building opportunities for students, emerging artists, and families to engage with creativity in meaningful ways.

A Space That Feels Open and Inviting
The foundation’s building design reflects the same philosophy behind its programming.
With clean architectural structure and bright gallery spaces, the building is calm, modern, and intentionally welcoming.
Rather than creating a formal museum atmosphere, the space encourages visitors to move freely through exhibitions and experience art in a relaxed and informative setting.
The institution is established to give the public greater access to important private collections while also supporting artistic development within the UAE.
Since opening, it has become a growing platform for education, collaboration, and cultural exchange within the region.
Investing In Emerging Creative Talent
To mark its second anniversary, the foundation has introduced several new initiatives centred around education and mentorship.
Offering scholarship support for Emirati artist Noor Al Suwaidi’s postgraduate studies is a special story, whilst also creating a collaborative programme with Zayed University that gives students practical experience in curating, exhibition design, and photography.
The upcoming exhibition ‘Seeing Ourselves’, which will be open on the 11th of June this year, is developed entirely by students and will explore identity and contemporary life in the UAE through photography and visual storytelling.

Making Art Accessible Beyond the Gallery
Access to the world of art remains a major focus across the foundation’s wider programmes.
Free workshops, lectures, and educational sessions continue to bring new audiences into the arts, while partnerships with ADEK (Department of Education and Knowledge) and local schools introduce young people to creative career paths.
The foundation has also expanded inclusive initiatives through family-focused art programmes designed for children and adults of determination, helping create a cultural space that feels genuinely open to all.
