Abu Dhabi to Restrict Delivery Motorcycles on Major Roads from May 15th

As of next week, there will be new traffic regulations introduced in Abu Dhabi that will prevent delivery motorcycles from using selected high-speed roads across the emirate.

This significant announcement was confirmed by Abu Dhabi Mobility’s Integrated Transport Centre as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and traffic efficiency throughout the capital.

High-Speed Roads Included in the New Rule

From May 15th 2026, the updated rule will apply to roads where speed limits reach 120km/h and above, as well as a key stretch of Sheikh Zayed Street between Sheikh Zayed Bridge and Sheikh Zayed Tunnel.

Under the new regulations, delivery motorcycles will no longer be allowed to travel on several major highways known for faster traffic movement and heavier vehicle flow during peak periods.

While alternative routes have not yet been outlined in full, delivery operators across Abu Dhabi are expected to adjust routes and schedules ahead of the implementation date.

A Move Focused on Road Safety

Officials have stated that the decision forms part of wider plans to strengthen transport safety standards across the emirate.

By limiting motorcycle access on high-speed roads, authorities aim to reduce the likelihood of accidents involving delivery riders while also supporting smoother traffic movement for commuters.

The latest update follows a number of transport and road safety initiatives introduced across the UAE in recent years, particularly surrounding motorcycle regulations and delivery rider welfare, which has become a major discussion point over the last few months.

Giving a week’s notice, delivery companies and riders operating in Abu Dhabi are expected to comply with the updated regulations once enforcement begins next week.
