You may have seen it scrolling through your phone: two competitors waiting for the signal before unleashing a huge slap across the face. It is strange, spectacular, and judging by the number of clips making their way around social media, increasingly difficult to ignore. Now, Power Slap is bringing the action back to Abu Dhabi this October.
The History of Power Slap
UFC president Dana White launched Power Slap in 2022 after he became fascinated by slap-fighting videos appearing online. Simple enough to follow, two athletes take turns striking each other with an open hand, with competitors separated into weight divisions and governed by an official set of rules.
Since its arrival, Power Slap has developed from an internet curiosity into a global promotion, with athletes competing for rankings and championship titles.
With each contest built around explosive strikes and the possibility of a sudden finish, these unique individual moments can make for highly shareable social media clips.
Power Slap 25 Is Heading to Abu Dhabi
Power Slap 25 will take place at Space42 Arena on Friday 23 October this year, forming part of Abu Dhabi Showdown Week. It will be the promotion’s third consecutive marquee event in the capital.
If the numbers are anything to go by, Power Slap is no longer simply an oddity appearing between your scrolls. Its previous Abu Dhabi events sold out, whilst the content surrounding the 2024 and 2025 shows generated more than 1.5 billion social media views.
This October, Abu Dhabi gets to see what all the fuss is about in person.
