If you’ve been looking for an easier way to commute with your pet, Etihad Rail has delivered some welcome news to those wanting to travel with their best pal.
As the UAE’s new passenger service welcomed its first travellers this morning, the operator confirmed that domestic pets will be allowed on board, making it possible to explore the country by rail without leaving anyone behind.
A strong fact early on, even falcons have been included in the policy, while bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters have been left off the passenger list.

Travelling With Your Pet? Here’s What You Need to Know
No matter what species of pet passengers decide to bring on board, there are a few rules to keep in mind before heading to the station.
Pets must remain inside a secure carrier throughout the journey, with the carrier measuring no more than 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.
Each traveller is allowed to bring one pet carrier, which counts towards their cabin baggage allowance, and the good news is the policy is refreshingly straightforward too.
Standard household pets do not need to be registered or booked in advance, provided they meet the travel requirements, with the only exception being assistance dogs, which must be arranged through Etihad Rail’s Contact Centre before travelling.
Good News for Pets… Not So Much for Pedals
While Etihad Rail is rolling out the welcome mat for animal companions, it has drawn the line at personal transport.
Bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters won’t be permitted on passenger services, so anyone planning a multi-stop cycling adventure will need to make alternative arrangements.
Families travelling with young children can still bring folded pushchairs, while passengers requiring wheelchair access can reserve dedicated spaces when booking their journey.
As excitement builds around the launch of the UAE’s first nationwide passenger rail network, the pet-friendly policy adds another reason to leave the car at home.
From weekend escapes with your dog to journeys with the family house cat, Etihad Rail is making sure more members of the household can come along for the ride, even if your bike has to stay behind!
