As the lights went up at ADNEC Centre on Thursday (December 18th), Abu Dhabi’s newest international tournament, Phygital Games of the Future 2025, officially kicked off.
This unique concept sees athletes and gamers compete side by side in phygital disciplines, where performance on the real-world turf and within the digital arena both count toward victory.
What Are the Games of the Future?
Concept & Format
- Physical meets digital: Each discipline starts with a digital round, whether that’s a face-off on PC or a tactical shooter match. This is immediately followed by a real-world version of the same challenge. Results from both stages combine to decide the winners.
- Phygital disciplines: The event comprises eleven unique categories, including Phygital Football, Phygital Basketball, Phygital Shooter, and Phygital Dancing.
- Global scale: Over 850 competitors representing clubs from more than 60 countries gather here, bringing an electric mix of cultural energy and competitive spirit.
Teams & Events
- Club-Centric Competition: Unlike traditional country-based tournaments, the teams represent clubs from grassroots squads. With each team boasting a blend of physical athletes and digital experts.
- Digital First: Round-robin digital qualifiers set the stage, with teams competing in virtual environments before moving to physical arenas for live action. Combined scoring across both stages shapes the tournament standings and where each team sits.
- Crowd-Friendly Format: The event mixes intense competition with experience zones, fan activations, and interactive tech showcases. Giving spectators the chance to engage and receive a full experience.
The Stakes Results & Prizes
No future event would be complete without serious stakes:
- $5 Million Prize Pool: Life-changing money is on the line. Distributed among the top performers across multiple disciplines, it’s all to play for!
- Champions Status: Champions will be crowned in each category, with club trophies and digital badges given to the top performers over the course of the event.
