Got some furry friends at home? Things are about to get more official with them especially if you’re based out of Abu Dhabi with a new mandatory pet registration rule coming up.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is calling on pet owners to register their cats and dogs through the TAMM portal’s animal ownership system. Starting February 3rd, this new system will create a centralized database for pet owners and their microchipped animals.

The DMT highlights the importance of collaboration in this initiative emphasizing commitment to animal welfare and legal compliance, with veterinary clinics playing a key role.
When is the deadline for pet registration in Abu Dhabi?
Pet owners can visit their chosen clinic to register their pets, and establishments will be able to register animals or transfer ownership for accuracy and compliance.
Registration will be free for now, and individual pet owners have a one-year grace period to register without penalties. However, pet shops and establishments that own cats and dogs must complete their registration within six months.
Post registration, pet owners will be able to track their pet’s records while the authorities will continue to focus on managing the stray animal population and enable proper identification for all pawfect buddies.
The programme will also focus on pet health, encouraging annual vaccinations, microchipping, and regular veterinary check-ups.
This new centralised database represents a major step forward in promoting responsible pet ownership across Abu Dhabi.
