If you’re currently squeezing the last few days out of the summer holidays before heading back to Abu Dhabi, there’s some good news waiting on the other side of that flight home.
While returning from a summer away usually means unpacking suitcases, resetting alarm clocks, and facing the inevitable back-to-school rush, Abu Dhabi is trying to make the homecoming feel a little more exciting this year.
A new Welcome Back to Abu Dhabi experience has launched at Zayed International Airport, timed especially for families returning to the capital ahead of the new school year.
Created by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways, and Abu Dhabi Airports, the idea is simple: the holiday might be over, but exploring doesn’t have to be.
So, what will you actually find when you land?
Families arriving at Zayed International Airport will be greeted by a dedicated welcome-back activation, including specially designed bilingual cultural boarding passes.
Rather than sending you onto another flight, these passes point families towards things to see and do across Abu Dhabi, including museums, heritage sites and cultural destinations.
There’s also free access for children and senior citizens to a selection of museums across Saadiyat Cultural District, alongside educational guides to Abu Dhabi’s cultural and historic sites and giveaway items for younger travellers.
It’s a nice way to soften that post-holiday landing, particularly if you’re coming home with children who aren’t quite ready to accept that summer is over.
There’s plenty to come home to
And actually, the timing couldn’t be better. Coming back to Abu Dhabi doesn’t necessarily have to mean the fun stops. There are museums to rediscover, cultural sites to explore and plenty of reasons to start filling up those weekends again.
The Welcome Back to Abu Dhabi campaign will run throughout the back-to-school season, with a QR code journey that gives families access to curated itineraries, museum highlights, and cultural events happening across the emirate.
So yes, the suitcases need unpacking. The uniforms need finding. And those early school-morning alarms are unfortunately making a comeback. But the summer holiday ending doesn’t mean the adventures have to. Abu Dhabi has plenty waiting for you at home.
