Across the UAE, it’s been reported that navigation systems are not functioning properly, causing issues.
Google Maps and Waze users across the UAE have reported navigation glitches, with some drivers noticing their location jumping between positions or showing incorrect routes.
Location Is Jumping in Abu Dhabi
With Abu Dhabi built for driving, it is the most common method of transport in the city. Residents in several areas of the capital say their navigation apps have briefly shown them in the wrong place, with some drivers saying their location marker suddenly moved from their actual position.
Others noticed their route constantly recalculating while driving, which is dangerous. Social media users have been sharing examples of maps placing them in unexpected areas.

What’s Causing the Issue
Navigation relies on satellite signals and strong data speeds to determine the exact location of someone’s phone. If these signals are disrupted, the accuracy of map apps can be affected.
Technology experts have said temporary GPS interference can sometimes cause devices to miscalculate their position. The result of this is apps showing incorrect routes or unusual map movements.
What Drivers Can Do If It Happens
GPS has become a global requirement and a significant tool in most drivers’ lives. Accurate directions are particularly important in cities with large highway networks and complex road systems.
Drivers in Abu Dhabi have been advised to do the following.
- Restart the navigation app if it is not working properly.
- Make sure the location services are enabled on the device.
- Update the navigation app to the latest version if possible.
While the issue appears to be temporary, the recent reports highlight how even the most reliable navigation apps can occasionally lose their bearings.
