Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Provides 95,000 Iftars Daily During Ramadan

Abu Dhabi’s spirit of generosity takes centre stage, and this year is no different. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is once again delivering an extraordinary community initiative, preparing and distributing up to 95,000 iftar meals daily throughout the holy month.

It is a remarkable operation that reflects the capital’s deep-rooted values of compassion and unity.

A Daily Operation on a Huge Scale

From the early hours of the morning, teams begin preparing thousands of meals to ensure they are ready in time for Maghrib.

Industrial kitchens across the emirate work methodically to cook vast quantities of rice, meat, vegetables, and traditional emirate dishes. Each meal is packed and includes essentials for breaking the fast, such as dates, water, and juice.

The scale is impressive. Tens of thousands of kilograms of ingredients are used daily, with distribution points extending beyond the mosque itself. Their message and actions are powerful, ensuring that no one observing Ramadan goes without iftar.

Continuing a Legacy of Giving

The Iftar programme at the Grand Mosque has been a longstanding tradition, rooted in the values championed by the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His vision of community care and humanitarian support continues to shape initiatives like this one.

More than 2,000 staff members and volunteers contribute daily to the effort, from chefs and packers to drivers and organisers. Their work ensures that meals are delivered efficiently and respectfully, maintaining quality and convenience for recipients.

More Than Just a Meal

For many, breaking their fast at the mosque is about far more than just the Iftar meal. It is a shared moment at sunset when thousands gather in reflection and gratitude.

While the numbers are striking, it is the intention behind them that resonates most. In serving 95,000 meals each day, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque not only feeds people in Abu Dhabi, but it also reinforces the values of generosity that define Ramadan in the UAE.
