Abu Dhabi has announced new speed limit reductions across several key roads in the emirate, as authorities continue efforts to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow. The changes will come into effect from 9 February and will have a potential impact on daily commuters.
Changes on Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road
One of the most significant updates applies to the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road (E22), one of the emirate’s busiest highways. Authorities confirmed that the maximum speed limit will be reduced on multiple sections of the road in both directions.
Between Al Nahda Interchange and Bani Yas Interchange, the current speed limit will be lowered from 160 km/h to 140 km/h, with an additional reduction that will apply on the stretch extending beyond Bani Yas Interchange towards the bridge area.
Officials say the move is aimed at reducing high-speed collisions and improving reaction time for drivers.

Updates Around Bani Yas Interchange
The Bani Yas Interchange, which connects several major routes and experiences high traffic volumes during peak hours, will also see revised speed limits. The changes are expected to support smoother merging, safer lane changes, and improved overall traffic management in the area.
Transport authorities noted that interchange zones are particularly sensitive to speed variations and require stricter control to minimise accidents.

Lower Limits on Al Rawdah Road
Meanwhile, Al Rawdah Road (E30) will see its speed limit reduced in both directions from 120 km/h to 100 km/h. This road plays a key role in linking residential areas with major destinations across Abu Dhabi, making safety improvements especially important for daily commuters.
Officials stated that the revised limit aligns with traffic density and road usage patterns along the route.
What Drivers Need to Know
Motorists are advised to look out for updated road signage and adjust their driving accordingly once the new limits take effect. Authorities have reminded drivers that speed cameras will reflect the updated regulations.
The latest announcement reinforces Abu Dhabi’s ongoing commitment to safer roads, encouraging responsible driving in the city.
