As Abu Dhabi gears up to welcome the New Year celebrations, motorists are being advised to plan as temporary traffic restrictions and road closures will be in place across the city on New Year’s Eve.
Authorities have announced a series of measures to manage the expected increase in traffic, particularly around major celebration hotspots such as the Corniche, Yas Island, Al Maryah Island, and other popular fireworks viewing areas.
The restrictions are designed to ensure public safety, smooth traffic flow, and access for emergency services during one of the busiest nights of the year.
Corniche Road Closures and City Centre Access
Several main roads leading towards the Abu Dhabi Corniche will be partially or fully closed from the evening of 31 December.
This includes sections of Corniche Road itself, with access limited to residents, hotel guests, and authorised vehicles only.
Drivers heading into the city centre are encouraged to use alternative routes and allow extra time, as congestion is expected to build from late afternoon.

Yas Island Traffic and Parking Restrictions
On Yas Island, where large crowds are expected, road closures will begin earlier in the day. Access to certain areas may be restricted once parking reaches capacity, with visitors urged to follow digital signboards and instructions from traffic police. Parking restrictions will also apply near key event zones.
Public Transport, Resident Access and Road Reopening Times
Public transport services, including buses and taxis, will operate with increased frequency to accommodate higher demand.
Visitors are advised to arrive early and remain in place until after midnight to avoid peak congestion. Residents within restricted zones should carry valid identification and proof of residence to facilitate access through checkpoints.
Restrictions are expected to remain in place until the early hours of January 1, with roads reopening gradually once crowds disperse and safety checks are completed.
Motorists are advised to use navigation apps and follow official announcements for real-time updates on road closures and diversions.
