Can’t wait for Dune: Part Three? If you live in Abu Dhabi, you won’t have to wait much longer because they’re filming right here in the Liwa Desert!

That’s right, the massive Hollywood franchise has officially confirmed the beginning of filming with the Liwa Desert to be the principal location.

According to the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, “The sweeping dunes of Liwa Desert return to the big screen as filming begins in Abu Dhabi later this year for the next chapter in the Dune saga.”

The Creative Media Authority and Abu Dhabi Film Commission will provide logistical support, while Abu Dhabi-based production company Image Nation will serve as a production partner.

“We look forward to welcoming [Dune production company] Legendary back to Abu Dhabi!” the statement continued.

What we know about the Dune: Part Three shoot in Abu Dhabi so far

While we’re still awaiting dates, we know the cast is star-studded to say the least. So far, the newest member on the cast list is Robert Pattinson, joining Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin.

Every year, the emirate’s involvement in filming the location has increased by leaps and bounds. For the first Dune (2021), the movie was shot for just five days in the emirate. The second one saw the production team spend almost a month in the desert, even building a ‘village’ in Liwa with local support.

Dune: Part Three is a continuation of the Academy Award-winning franchise from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, will benefit from the cashback rebate offered by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission.

Apart from Dune, several other major titles have been filmed in Abu Dhabi, including F1 The Movie, Mission: Impossible, Star Wars, Fast and Furious, Sonic the Hedgehog, Netflix’s 6 Underground and War Machine.

Odds are, this time the cast members might be sticking around for a much longer time. Winter in Abu Dhabi just got a whole lot more exciting!
