The Hungarian ultra-low-cost Wizz Air has long been a favourite for flyers in Abu Dhabi and beyond. Unfortunately, they have confirmed suspending all operations from the capital this summer!
A low-cost carrier from Zayed International Airport since 2020, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has announced it will cease all flights by the end of August.
Some of the reasons they’ve given to leave the UAE capital include engine reliability challenges in the region’s climate and geopolitical factors.

According to reports, CEO József Váradi cited supply chain constraints and limited market access have made it increasingly difficult to sustain the airline’s original ambitions.
With flight cancellations still rampant across the UAE, passengers can expect further delays in the lead-up to the full suspension. However, the suspension does not impact Wizz Air’s other flights outside of the UAE.
So what do you do if you have Wizz Air Abu Dhabi tickets?
- Review your booking confirmation in terms of dates, booking reference number, and booking website, i.e., Wizz Air or a travel agent/third-party website
- For those with direct bookings, the airline will be contacting them for a full refund or alternative travel arrangements
- Those with third party bookings will have to reach out to customer care as their primary point of contact for seeking refunds or exploring alternative travel options
It will always be prudent to maintain all communication with the airline or the booking agent in case of refund issues.
While summer getaways will now undoubtedly be affected, alternative low-fare airlines will definitely see a boom in demand. We’ll certainly miss Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s convenience!
