The ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security) have announced a temporary measure that will allow certain expatriate residents currently outside the country to return even if their residency visas have expired.
The move is aimed at helping residents who were unable to return to the UAE due to unexpected travel disruptions, who will not need to obtain a new entry permit to return to the country.
Officials say the decision is designed to simplify procedures and support residents affected by recent travel complications.

Temporary Travel Flexibility for Residents
The initiative will allow residents whose visas have expired to return directly without first applying for a new entry permit.
This policy, introduced by the ICP, is a short-term measure that gives affected residents a limited window to return to the country during these unprecedented times.
UAE authorities are aiming to reduce administrative barriers for people who were unintentionally stranded abroad.
What Residents Need To Know
Following recent regional travel challenges that are causing flight delays and cancellations, eligible residents will be able to return to the UAE during the announced grace period.
Once residents arrive in the country, they can update or renew their residency status through the usual immigration procedures.
Authorities have encouraged residents to ensure their travel documents are valid and to follow official immigration guidance before travelling. Without this temporary solution, many would normally need to start a completely new entry process.
The temporary policy highlights the UAE’s efforts to introduce practical solutions during periods of disruption.
For many residents currently abroad, the measure provides a straightforward opportunity to return to the UAE and organise their residency paperwork once they are back in the country.
