Important lessons don’t always come from a textbook. From learning to manage emotions to making confident decisions and understanding money, these key life skills can help shape who we become.
A new initiative in Abu Dhabi is now giving young people the chance to develop these skills from an early age, with a programme designed to prepare them for life both inside and outside the classroom.
The Family Care Authority has joined forces with the Ministry of Education to launch a new Life Skills Programme for those aged seven to 18, taking a practical approach to learning.
Using interactive sessions and workshops, the programme helps participants develop useful skills that can support them at home, in their communities, and as they become more independent.
It is taking place across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, having started during the summer break and continuing until the end of 2026.
Building Confidence for Everyday Life
Across eight specialised workshops, participants can explore a broad mix of subjects, including financial literacy, banking, public speaking, assertive communication, and systematic thinking.
The programme also looks at the personal and social aspects of growing up. Sessions cover emotional intelligence, leadership, conflict resolution, managing frustration, online safety, and positive thinking, giving young people practical tools they can carry with them well beyond the programme.
Skills That Stay with You
There is something particularly inspiring about an initiative that looks beyond grades and academic achievement. These are the skills that can influence how young people communicate, make decisions, overcome challenges, and approach new experiences, helping them feel more confident as they navigate the world around them.
With the programme running through the end of 2026, Abu Dhabi’s youth can develop practical knowledge that stays with them long after the final workshop, helping lay the foundations for a confident and capable future.
