Motorists in Abu Dhabi will soon need to factor in paid parking when visiting Mohamed bin Zayed City, as authorities prepare to introduce a regulated system from April 6th, 2026.
The update marks the next phase in the capital’s ongoing efforts to better organise parking, ease congestion, and improve access in the city.
From Regulation to Paid Parking
Parking controls were first rolled out in selected sectors of Mohamed bin Zayed City at the end of 2025.
During this initial period, motorists were able to park free of charge while adapting to the new layout and rules.
From April 6, that grace period will come to an end. Paid parking will officially be enforced, bringing the district in line with other regulated areas across Abu Dhabi.

Supporting Smoother Traffic Flow
The introduction of paid parking is designed to address common challenges and encourage mindful parking habits.
This system aims to make it easier for drivers to find spaces when they need them, with the approach targeted to work as it does in other parts of the emirate.
What Drivers Should Know
Once the system is live, motorists can expect standard paid parking procedures, including clearly marked bays and digital payment options.
Drivers will likely be able to pay via mobile apps or parking machines, depending on the zone.
Although the move introduces an additional cost for drivers, it reflects a broader push towards improving urban mobility across Abu Dhabi.
With better-managed parking and clearer regulations in place, Mohamed bin Zayed City is set to become a more organised and accessible destination for both residents and visitors.
