UAE-Oman to enjoy historic connectivity via Hafeet Rail

Ready to travel from the UAE to Oman in a revolutionary new way? Hafeet Rail is well underway, and here’s all you need to know about the first-of-its-kind project.

The new joint rail venture is named after Jebel Hafeet, the mountain peak that’s the highest in the UAE and shares a border with Oman.

So far, we know that construction on the UAE-Oman rail network has officially begun. Hafeet Rail Company is currently working on finalising the timeline for when the railway will become operational.

What is Hafeet Rail?

Hafeet Rail is a joint venture between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company.

The rail will connect the existing Etihad Rail network at Al Ain with Sohar Port in Oman, boosting the transport and logistics chain and of course, slashing travel times by a significant amount.

The Hafeet Rail is expected to connect over 12 passenger stations and cities across the two countries. It will also link 5 major ports and 15+ integrated freight facilities.

The project is valued at around USD 2.5 billion (approximately 960 million Omani rials) and is the first cross-border railway network in the region.

What can passengers expect from Hafeet Rail?

Think scenic views, a historic journey that’ll make cross-border travel between the UAE and Oman easier, faster and more sustainable. The Hafeet Rail is currently expected to run between major cities Abu Dhabi to Sohar, as well as Sohar to Al Ain.

Passengers will also benefit from comfortable, high-speed trains up to 200 km/h, so say goodbye to long, tiresome drives.

Of course, the rail network is expected to boost tourism. From short getaways, business trips to pesky visa turnarounds, residents and visitors can explore destinations in both countries with ease.

Once fully operational, Hafeet Rail will offer a smooth, efficient alternative to driving. No more delays at road borders, and a great, cost-efficient, sustainable alternative for those with or without cars. Watch this space for more updates!
