Back-to-school traffic got you worried? The first day might just get easier with the UAE announcing flexible working hours for federal employees.
Federal employees in the UAE will be granted some wiggle room in attendance on the first day of the new academic year to accompany their children to and from school or home.
Got younger children? You’re covered too! The dynamic work shift will extend to parents with children in nurseries and kindergartens during the entire first week of the new term.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) noted that the duration for the same shall not exceed a total of three hours.
Flexible working hours through the academic year in the UAE
It also added that public sector employees in the UAE may be allowed more versatility in schedules to attend parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies and other school events during the academic year.

As traffic continues to reach an all-time high, plus a torrid weather forecast on the horizon, it would help on the first day rush to have fewer cars on the road.
Let’s hope this paves the way to relook at working hours for public (and hopefully private!) sector employees too.
