Abu Dhabi to host the first-ever UFC women’s title fight in the Middle East

The events calendar in the UAE continues to heat up, and we now have the region’s first-ever UFC women’s title fight coming to Abu Dhabi as well!

Etihad Arena this October is going to be the hottest place to be. There are two new additions to the card and a chance to witness history! First, with a women’s strawweight title fight, and second being the return of Umar Nurmagomedov in a high-stakes bantamweight clash.

As UFC 321: Aspinall vs Gane in Abu Dhabi edges nearer, everyone’s already buzzing about the October 25 blockbuster to be headlined by heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

The Middle East’s first UFC women’s title fight

Before Zhang Weili makes her move up to flyweight, the vacant strawweight belt will be contested in Abu Dhabi for the very first time.

Brazilian champs Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern are all set to clash for the strawweight title. With Dern having beaten Jandiroba back at UFC 267, you can be sure this fight is about to be historic!

Since then, Dern’s career has seen ups and downs, but she recently regained momentum with decision victories over Loopy Godinez and Amanda Ribas. Jandiroba, meanwhile, has been on the best run of her career, beating six of her last seven opponents, including top names like Marina Rodriguez and Yan Xiaonan.

first ever UFC women's title fight

With a championship gold on the line, Abu Dhabi is set to witness not just the region’s first UFC women’s title fight, but a chance to inspire a new wave of female fighters across the region.

This bout marks a historic milestone as the first UFC women’s title fight to be held in the Middle East, underlining the UFC’s – and specifically the UAE capital’s – commitment to further promoting MMA among communities and inspiring women across the region.
