Etihad Rail has moved quickly to strengthen the movement of goods across the UAE, operating an intensive schedule of freight trains across the national railway network.
According to an update shared by Abu Dhabi Media Office, the rail operator has carried out more than 100 freight train trips in just nine days.
During that time, the trains transported over 459,000 tonnes of cargo and more than 7,900 containers across the UAE, helping ensure that goods continue to move efficiently between key economic centres.
The move marks a significant step forward in the operational use of the country’s rail infrastructure.
While Etihad Rail has long been viewed as a major national transport project, the recent increase in freight activity highlights how the network is now playing a practical role in supporting the country’s supply chains.

Recent regional tensions have heightened the importance of resilient logistics systems.
Rail transport offers a dependable option for moving large volumes of cargo between ports, industrial zones, and logistics hubs while reducing pressure on road networks.
Keeping Goods Moving Across the Emirates
To support these operations, Etihad Rail has activated additional rail corridors and redeployed intermodal capacity to assist East Coast ports.
These adjustments help ensure that cargo can continue to move smoothly through the country’s major shipping gateways.
The company has also positioned trains at Fujairah and at Al Ghail Dry Port Rail Terminal in Ras Al Khaimah, two locations that play an important role in connecting maritime routes with inland logistics hubs.
Five additional train services have also been introduced to increase capacity across the network.
With more than one hundred freight journeys completed in just over a week, the development demonstrates how the UAE’s growing rail network is quickly becoming a key part of the country’s logistics infrastructure.
