Motorists in Abu Dhabi are being asked to slow down and stay vigilant after authorities introduced temporary speed limit reductions across several major roads.
The changes come as rainfall and poor visibility sweep across the emirate this week, creating more challenging driving conditions and increasing the risk of accidents.
Reduced Limits Introduced on Major Routes
Variable speed limits have been activated on key highways, with updated limits displayed on electronic road signs.
Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road limits have been adjusted in certain sections, with speeds reduced to 100 km/h across multiple stretches.
Sections of the Al Ain Road are also now capped at 100 km/h, while parts of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Road have seen limits drop further to 80 km/h.

A Precaution During Hazardous Conditions
Heavy rain can make driving significantly more dangerous, particularly at higher speeds. By lowering speed limits during rain, authorities aim to reduce the likelihood of collisions and give drivers more time to react.
Officials urge motorists to pay close attention to digital road signs, as speed limits may change throughout the day in response to shifting weather patterns.
What Drivers Should Keep in Mind
As well as adhering to the revised speed limits, those driving are also being reminded to adopt safer driving habits.
Maintaining a greater distance between vehicles, avoiding sudden braking, and ensuring headlights are used appropriately can all help reduce risk.
It’s advised to avoid waterlogged areas when possible and stay updated through official channels for the latest traffic and weather alerts.
With unsettled weather expected to continue, following temporary speed limits and driving with extra caution will be essential to keeping journeys safe across Abu Dhabi.
