Abu Dhabi Introduces Stricter Penalties for Noisy Vehicles

Abu Dhabi is taking a firmer stance on noisy vehicle penalties, with new enforcement measures now in place for drivers whose vehicles create excessive noise in residential areas across the emirate.

The move is part of wider efforts to protect community well-being and ensure neighborhoods remain calm, safe spaces for families and residents.

Under the updated enforcement measures, motorists found operating unreasonably loud vehicles, whether due to aggressive driving, engine revving, or unauthorised modifications, could face a fine of AED 2,000 and 12 black points on their driving license.

The penalties apply across the emirate, with particular attention on housing areas where noise disturbances are most disruptive.

What Counts as a Noisy Vehicle Penalties?

Authorities have clarified that the rules cover a range of behaviours. This includes vehicles with modified exhaust systems, altered engines, or any mechanical changes that amplify sound beyond acceptable limits.

In addition to fines and points, vehicles that have been modified without approval may be impounded, with owners required to restore them to factory standards before they can return to the road.

Why the Change Matters

Noise pollution has become a growing concern in parts of Abu Dhabi, particularly in residential districts where late-night driving and modified cars can disrupt sleep and daily routines.

Officials say the stricter noisy vehicle penalties are designed not only to deter reckless behaviour, but also to reinforce shared responsibility and respect within communities.

Reducing excessive noise also supports broader road safety goals, as loud vehicles are often linked to speeding and aggressive driving.

What Residents Should Know

Drivers are encouraged to ensure their vehicles comply with approved specifications and to be mindful of how and where they drive, specifically near homes, schools, and family areas. Residents who experience repeated disturbances can report incidents through official police channels.

As enforcement increases, the message is clear from Abu Dhabi Police. Responsible and safe driving is a must.
