A hotel stay in Abu Dhabi could soon offer guests a much stronger taste of the UAE’s culture, even before they’ve unpacked their bags. New Emirati Hospitality Standards are being introduced across hotels and hotel apartments in the emirate, bringing traditional customs and stories closer to the visitor experience.
Developed by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the new framework brings together 65 standards spanning eight stages of the guest journey. Hotels and hotel apartments will begin working towards the new requirements ahead of full implementation in the first quarter of 2027.
Your Welcome Is About to Get More Local
One of the biggest changes will be the way guests are introduced to Emirati culture from the moment they arrive. Traditional Emirati coffee and dates will form part of the welcome experience, with hotels also introducing more locally inspired food and ingredients.
DCT Abu Dhabi’s aim isn’t simply to add a few traditional touches to a hotel stay, but to give visitors a more genuine connection to the region.
That cultural focus will extend to hotel teams too, with staff receiving comprehensive training designed to build their knowledge of Emirati heritage and traditions.

For Abu Dhabi’s hotels, the new standards represent a shift towards making local identity part of the wider hospitality experience. Service in the city is all about five-star experiences, but this could add a distinctly Emirati touch.
