Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is diving into the wonders of the ocean this August with a month-long programme of marine-themed experiences. From interactive workshops and guided tours to family-friendly activities, visitors of all ages can explore the fascinating world beneath the waves without leaving Saadiyat Cultural District.
Alongside the ocean-inspired programme, the Mindful Museum series returns with yoga sessions, ladies-only Lagree workouts and sound meditation beneath the dinosaur exhibits. The month will also feature a special seashell-themed evening at Nayzak Café in collaboration with Stardust Bar, on Friday, 28 August.
What is the Line-Up?
There are several programmes planned out. Movement Through Water Mini Tour is a short, guided journey through water’s power to move, and to be moved through.
This mini-tour traces movement from an ancient Abu Dhabi hippo that was dependent on a long-vanished river system to the fastest shark in the ocean, as well as animals that appear still but are not. It will be held at the museum galleries every weekend in August at 10.30 am, 12.30 pm, 2.30 pm, 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm.
A field expedition will allow visitors to collect their field notebook, complete interactive tasks, and earn an expedition badge by thinking like a real scientist. It will take place throughout August on the mezzanine floor, Act 1A. A deep-sea discovery tour will dive into how whales and other aquatic species survive in the darkness of the ocean.
Meanwhile, Ocean Layers allows participants to build a visual model of the ocean, while bioluminescence art lets visitors design glow-inspired artwork.
Tickets are AED 70 for adults, while children aged 18 and under visit for free, making it easy for families and school-aged kids to explore together. Concessions are available for UAE students, teachers, military, Fazaa/Esaad cardholders and eligible groups, with complimentary entry for People of Determination and UAE-based seniors aged over 60.
