If you’ve been out early in the morning or just before sunset lately in Abu Dhabi, you might have noticed something new in the free fitness scene in Abu Dhabi. Groups stretching on lawns, informal workout clusters at parks, and people moving together along beachfront promenades.
Free, community-led fitness activities around the city have been growing steadily, and many residents are joining in without paying a dirham.

Across outdoor spaces like Abu Dhabi Corniche, Hudayriyat Island, and neighbourhood parks, you can now spot everything from group runs and beach yoga to calisthenics and boot-style workouts almost every day of the week.
One of the biggest drivers of this shift is not a single programme, but a broader change in how residents are choosing to move.
Residents of all ages and fitness levels are showing up for classes that include walking groups, running sessions, boot-camp-style workouts, yoga, cycling, volleyball, and more.
What’s Free in Abu Dhabi
Free fitness in Abu Dhabi doesn’t mean guesswork. There are a few genuinely active, community-led options that residents can join right now.
Abu Dhabi Running Team, a free running group for all abilities, was created by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and led by certified coach Youssef Rochdi. The runs are open to everyone, community-focused and easy to join.
There is also a free morning walking group at Yas Mall, happening Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8 AM to 9 AM. It’s a relaxed, indoor walk before the mall opens, welcoming all fitness levels.
Perhaps the most unique is a free callisthenics meet-up near Marsana Beach on Hudayriyat Island every Thursday at 6:30 PM. It is run by Muscle Up Fitness. Locals gather for full-body workouts with no fee, and all levels are welcome.
The Galleria Al Maryah Island also runs a free community fitness programme called Get Active. The sessions include walking groups, yoga, Zumba for adults and families, kids’ classes and a weekly community run, all held inside the mall during morning hours.
Why Residents Are Turning Up
Several factors are helping this scene take off. Cooler weather makes outdoor workouts enjoyable; there’s no sign-up stress or gym fee.
Moving with others turns fitness into a social habit rather than a chore. Plus, public spaces in Abu Dhabi are increasingly designed for movement, whether it’s a running path along the Corniche or shaded parks for stretching and yoga.
This isn’t just a one-off trend. The city’s free fitness culture gives people a reason to use local spaces together, build community and stay active without breaking the bank.
For many residents, that sense of shared movement is what makes Abu Dhabi’s fitness scene feel fresh, accessible and genuinely fun to be part of.
