Best Iftar Buffet In Abu Dhabi – FAQs
When does Ramadan fall in Abu Dhabi?
Although the dates may vary depending on the sighting of the moon, it is anticipated to fall on the evening of March 1 until the evening of 29 or 30 March, 2025.
What is the significance of Iftar?
Iftar is the first meal eaten right after sunset during the holy month of Ramadan. Muslim devotees observe Ramadan through prayers, fasting and charitable deeds throughout the holy month.
The breaking of the fast occurs most often in a group setting with family and friends.
Why do the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque cannons go off during Ramadan 2025 in Abu Dhabi?
There is an enduring tradition that is continued year after year by members of Emirati society.
The Squadron of the Support Units Command fires a cannon to mark the start of the holy month of Ramadan in a symbolic gesture that represents the cultural heritage of UAE ancestors.
The first two shots indicate the commencement of the month of fasting. After that, for the next 30 days, the cannon will be fired every day during the holy month, marking the time for Muslim devotees to break their fast.
Is there a rule in Abu Dhabi that restaurants are only open at Iftar time?
Most malls and hotels have restaurants open during the day. However other restaurants are closed during the daytime, and they are open right after sunset until the early hours of the morning.
A handful of restaurants stay open during Ramadan for dine-in and take-out orders during the day and at night.
What are you allowed to eat during Iftars in Abu Dhabi?
During Ramadan, Muslims fast all day and break their fast at sundown with Iftar, a meal that usually starts with dates and water followed by a lavish dinner at one of the venues mentioned above or even at home.
If Ramadan falls during the summer months, Muslim devotees are encouraged to drink water and stay hydrated until they begin fasting again after their last meal (Suhoor) in the early hours of the morning.
How does Abu Dhabi celebrate Ramadan?
During the holy month of Ramadan, charity is highly valued. Donations do not necessarily need to be in cash. They can also be in the form of food for Iftar.
The United Arab Emirates provides its citizens and ex-pat workers with free Iftar meals on a daily basis. Moreover, several places around Abu Dhabi, including mosques, large pop-up tents, traffic junctions and shopping malls, offer free meals to the public.
What do you bring to a Muslim household for Iftar?
There is no restriction on the visitor taking a gift, but it is imperative to keep in mind what is haram and what is halal.
The giving of a box of dates, dried fruit and nuts, bouquets, halal sweets, and a jar of Attar (an Arabic fragrance in a Muslim household) during the holy month can be considered acceptable gifts.
